Fleet of Flowers in Depoe Bay, Oregon

Since 1945, Depoe Bay has hosted the Fleet of Flowers each Memorial Day and the event has become one of the most impressive observances held in the United States. The ceremony was begun to honor two fishermen who died at sea attempting to save another fisherman. Years later, thousands of visitors come to this small town along the Oregon Coast to join with residents in mourning the death of loved ones, especially those who were lost at sea. Following an onshore ceremony, a fleet of boats decorated with flowers pass under the Highway 101 bridge.
